Formula 1 racer Liam Lawson stated he came dangerously close to a potentially deadly incident during Sunday's Mexico City Grand Prix when two marshals crossed the track right in his path

The concerning event happened on the third circuit when track officials were spotted on the circuit as Lawson was returning to the race following an quick visit to the pits to change his compromised front wing

Competitor's Live Reaction

Shortly afterward, the team's competitor Lawson communicated to his race engineer saying: "Are you kidding me? Did you witness that? I nearly... ended their lives"

"I genuinely couldn't process what I was witnessing"

"I came out on a new set of hards, and then I arrived at Turn One and there were just two dudes running across the track"

"I nearly hit one of them, truthfully, it was extremely hazardous"

Security Issues Highlighted

"Clearly there's been a failure in communication somehow but This is the first time I've faced that before, and I can't recall observing that in the past. It's pretty unacceptable"

"We can't understand how on a live track marshals can be permitted to just run across the track like that. I have no idea why, I'm certain we'll get some sort of explanation, but this must never be repeated"

Formal Inquiry in Progress

F1's overseeing organization, the FIA, is actively examining the situation

"After an occurrence at turn one, race control was notified that fragments were located on the track at the critical section of that bend" commented the governing body

"In the third rotation, marshals were notified and put on alert to enter the track and recover the debris once all cars had passed"

"Immediately when it was understood that Lawson had made a pit stop, the instructions to dispatch marshals were canceled and a safety warning flag was raised in that zone"

"We are still investigating what occurred after that point"
